An Armed Populace

is an inherently safe populace. Who wants to rob or attack someone who quite possibly has a gun??!! It levels the playing field, allowing the ordinary citizen to defend himself against crime and terror. The Iraqi government today urged that its' citizens arm themselves amid the violence in the country. While this may prove to be a headache for the forces who have to sort the good guys with guns from the bad guys with guns, but I believe thoroughly in the concept that one of the best ways to deter violence is to be ready to respond with equal violence. This may well work well.
